HONOURING TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
Moose Hide Campaign
May 16 is the 13th Annual Moose Hide Campaign Day. This campaign is a grassroots movement of Indigenous and non-Indigenous men and boys standing up against violence towards women and children. Women, girls and all genders are also very much welcome to support the campaign and its goals.
The campaign is targeted at men and boys because we know that women are far more likely to be victims of domestic violence and sexual harassment than men and while women have been at the forefront of efforts to end domestic violence, gender-based violence and inequality, men have largely been absent in these efforts.
In joining the campaign, you make a promise to:
- Stand up with women and children and speak out against violence towards them.
- Support each other and hold each other accountable.
- Teach our young boys about the true meaning of love and respect and be healthy role models for them.
- Heal ourselves as men and support our brothers on their healing journey.
By wearing a moose hide pin and taking part in other events, you will be demonstrating your commitment to giving women and children the respect, safety, and security they deserve. (Order Pins Here)
For more information, you can visit the Moose Hide Campaign K-12 Learning Platform to check out potential lesson plans. There, you can also find more educational resources such as a curriculum guide for teachers, background information, preparing the environment and more.

Ensouling Our Schools: An Introduction to Two-Eyed Seeing I Register
In the third and penultimate session in this year’s Ensouling Our Schools Series, Len Pierre introduces us to the concept of two-eyed seeing. In the simplest of terms, two-eyed seeing is looking at something from two perspectives. In the realm of Indigenous cultural safety, and other places in our lives, this is looking at where Colonial Values and Indigenous Values diverge and intersect, and how understanding and respecting both will guide us on our path towards decolonization and reconciliation.

Heads up: Looksmaxxing – Mewing app | Common Sense Media
What?
- This app takes advantage of various efforts that are taken primarily by tween, teen, and young adult men in the belief that it will maximize their physical appearance based on specific standards. These efforts can involve weight loss, muscle gain, and even jaw enhancement.
- Now there are apps that allow people to submit a selfie and receive an AI-generated rating of their appearance, along with tips on how to improve. There’s also a community forum.
- Because looksmaxxing is all about changing appearance, it can fuel eating disorders, body dysmorphia, and other issues.
What Adults Can Do:
- Trends and all manner of media can affect kids’ perception of their appearance and what “attractiveness” is. To offset this influence, we can encourage media literacy and critical thinking, which can lead to questions like, “Who is really benefiting from these trends, and who might be harmed?” You can also look at media of the past to illustrate how these standards change—and how the media we consume perpetuates them.
- If you hear students using these terms, or notice behaviors that indicate they might be looksmaxxing, be curious and try to get a sense of the context: Are they just discussing trends they’ve seen, or are they taking part in it? Consider ways to safeguard digital well-being.
