Have you heard of the math and science resource called “GIZMOS”? Instructional Services has renewed teacher licenses for Gizmos, award winning online science and math simulations for teachers and their students. Gizmos are highly interactive learning tools that when implemented alongside classroom instruction can increase conceptual understanding in math and science. GIZMOS:
- Allows students to apply and represent concepts in different ways
- Engages students in inquiry and the discussion of a variety of real-life math and science connections

Building STEAM: Exploring Science, Math, and ADST Connections with Science World

Explore how design thinking and inquiry-based learning can be used to interconnect Science, Math and ADST. Working in teams, teachers will be paired with Science World educators and members of Langley’s Instructional Services team as they work to co-construct interactive learning experiences for immediate use in the classroom.

Maneuvering Through My Blueprint’s “All About Me” [Register]
Teachers will be taken through an interactive experience of understanding how this platform works, the benefits of the Class Pass App, and how “All About Me” can be an effective tool for formative assessment.
NVCI Basics [Register]
You will gain an understanding of the levels of behaviour escalation and learn strategies to de-escalate behaviours. Topics include verbal and nonverbal behaviour, verbal escalation, personal safety, and a debriefing strategy.
NVCI Refresher [Register]
Participants will receive NVCI certification for the three-hour refresher training. You will gain an understanding of the levels of behaviour escalation and learn strategies to de-escalate behaviours.
Outdoor Learning for Middle School [Register]
Are you looking for opportunities to enter into play-based learning with your students? Join other colleagues for an inquiry into play! Teachers will participate as if they were the students going through the process of gathering data in the Research forests at TWU and the Blaauw Research Forest.

SOGI Rep and Ally Training – “Getting to the Why”

This after school workshop will focus on why our ongoing work around SOGI (sexual orientation and gender identity) is so important. BRITISH COLUMBIA’S GSA FORUM! Staff Welcome!
Friday, October 25th, 2019 at Moscrop Secondary School
The Canadian Centre for Gender & Sexual Diversity, in partnership with Burnaby School District 41, will provide an LGBTQ+ Youth Forum to local high school students and staff from around British Columbia. Participation and lunch are FREE! We understand the importance of providing knowledge, tools and skills for youth to navigate through their school experiences. Having access to workshops that provide education on inclusivity can help students normalize their feelings, identities and relationships. We will cover topics such as LGBTQ+ Terminology, Transgender Inclusion, Intersectionality, Healthy Relationships, LGBTQ2+ History and other various topics that cover many of the intersecting identities in the LGBTQ+ community.To reserve your spot and register for the breakout sessions, click here. New Substance Use Working Group
First Meeting:Tuesday, November 5th 3:30 – 4:30 pm – School Board Office, Room 355
We are extending an invitation to all those interested in attending an information session about the upcoming Substances/Substance Use Working Group. We welcome any staff members interested in increasing substance use related education and awareness in our district to attend. Expertise is not required. The goal of the group is to have open discussion, brainstorm, plan and prepare resources and training about substances and substance use from a health and harm reduction perspective. The group aims to meet approximately once a month during this school year. We request that all those interested sign up here.
