February 21, 2020

Attention Teachers:
We are seeking students to showcase their Innovation, Designs, Entrepreneurship and/or Altruism at this year’s IDEA Summit on May 6, 2020. This District showcase event is open to all grades. Students have the opportunity to share their ideas and designs, campaigns, products and prototypes with other students, staff and Langley community members.
*If you are holding a Young Entrepreneur Showcase Event at your school, please let us know the date and times of your event as we are doing some “scouting” of students to share at the IDEA Summit. If you are doing the Young Entrepreneur Powerplay Program, students would need to have between 50-100 units of product to sell at the IDEA Summit. We are looking for innovative designs in terms of products as opposed to something they simply replicated.
We are especially interested in showcasing some of the Capstone projects students are doing around the District this year.
Next Steps: Select students who you think best exemplify Innovation, Design, Entrepreneurship and/or Altruism. Click HERE to submit a brief nomination of the student. The deadline for nominations is February 27th. For questions, please contact Dawne Tomlinson at dtomlinson@sd35.bc.ca.

Supporting Diversity and Respect Week
“Be an Ally” Notebook – A Resource for Schools and Staff
A shared notebook is currently being built and added to by staff on an ongoing basis. The purpose of the notebook is to generate ideas around the theme of “Be An Ally” for the upcoming Diversity and Respect Week (February 24 – 28). Some sections are well resourced while others could use some support (especially around diverse abilities and Indigenous perspectives). Please share the link widely in the hopes of creating school plans for the week but also to seek more contributions to the document. Any staff members can also directly add to the resource (preferred) or you can also please send links, lessons or other ideas to Renge Bailie. Please note that if you would like to use any of the documents – double click on the icons. Do not drag documents out of the document.
Do you teach Secondary Social Studies?
If so, check out this list of resources available for you to borrow from the District Learning Commons. Please contact Monica Spreitzer, or your Teacher-Librarian, if you need assistance with the online booking system.
