Black History Month
As Black History Month approaches, here are some links to resources to help support the learning in your classrooms. Please remember to try to avoid “performative acts” which can be perceived as tokenistic. We want to ensure that events and activities are linked to learning that is happening in your school and in classes. The day should be linked to resources being shared and awareness being built up over time. Trying to avoid one day events. We are still building resources for Diversity and Respect Week of which this will become a part.
This site provides some Canadian perspective on Black History.
This site might be most applicable for elementary schools though certainly not exclusively.
This site focuses specifically through the lens of Black History Month.
This is a site that while titled “Responding to the Insurrection” is really about how to handle discussion about a significant current event in our classrooms.
