KEY RESOURCES IN LANGLEY

RESOURCES REGARDING THE CONFLICT IN UKRAINE:
The invasion of Ukraine may resurface difficult feelings and trauma for students, teachers, staff and families. The Ministry of Education encourages you to be mindful of how these troubling events may impact you and those around you. Conversations about significant global events can be challenging, however it is important that children have caring adults around them to help make sense of the world and feel safe. The following resources provide tips for teachers and parents that we hope are helpful for your schools.

BEES AT SCHOOLS (more info)
The Bees@Schools project is installing wild cavity-nesting bee boxes (also known as bee hotels) at 200 schools across Canada in 2022 to track the distribution of these pollinators and what flowers they are using, providing a hands-on learning experience to your grade 4 to 12 science classes while contributing to an exciting new research initiative.

As part of this project, each participating school receives a fully constructed nest box that needs to be installed on the school grounds (or at the teacher’s residence, depending on teaching delivery methods).  If this project is of interest to you, please apply before March 31.

HISTORICA CANADA (more info)
In 1971, Canada became the first country in the world to adopt and official multiculturalism policy. It was meant to preserve cultural freedoms and recognize the contributions of diverse groups to Canadian society. Today it is a defining feature of the Canadian identity, but for much of our history, that wasn’t the case. This guide explores the complex and multi-faceted past and present of multiculturalism in Canada.
