Please see the attached poster for the final presentation by Kevin Lamoureux which will be held on Wednesday, April 20th from 3:30pm – 5:00pm with the opportunity for you to collaborate over dinner until 6:00pm. The poster includes links to prior sessions.
Prior to contact, there were education systems in place that allowed Indigenous people to grow into and thrive as healthy adults living in balance with the land. This session will explore teachings and insights from that pedagogical practice. Please put your teams together in preparation.

Microsoft Office Training Info Sessions: with Jasperactive MOS Online with Katheryn Jones [On-Demand Learning Feature]
This info session will discuss the training available to you through Jasperactive MOS Online. The program includes online courses for Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Choose to learn one Microsoft Office app or learn them all. Also for those who have some foundational skills, you can challenge yourself with expert levels. The Jasperactive tool gives you the option to learn at your own pace, in the learning style that works best for you. When you finish a session, you’ll also have the opportunity to get certified.

Coast Metro Elementary Mathematics Series – April 19, May 10, May 24 [Register]
The three-part online afterschool series will develop teachers’ pedagogical content knowledge through open questions and use of visual representations and materials. Each session will highlight one mathematical content area and feature a keynote presentation by Dr. Marian Small.
Following the keynote, participants will be invited to choose a grade-grouped cross-district breakout room. These breakout rooms will be facilitated by educators from the Lower Mainland Math Contacts network. Participants will engage in mathematical thinking, problem-solving, connection-making and relationship-seeking in mathematics. This series provides an opportunity to build an elementary mathematics community of educators across the Coast Metro region.

Learn quick ways to start using Excel spreadsheets in your Math lessons to develop student skills in problem solving, computational fluency and computational thinking. You’ll learn how to teach your students how to make graphs and calculate algorithms.
Creating Stronger School-Based Teams – April 27 [Register]
This workshop is a space for resource teachers, classroom teachers, and other educators who are interested in improving their school-based team (SBT). During this workshop, I will share our school’s process of SBT, including referral forms, organizing the meeting, taking SBT minutes, and supporting action plans following the meeting. Time will also be provided to share your own experiences and successes with SBT. Let’s help each other create stronger and more effective school-based teams.
Assessments to Guide Our Teaching of Literacy – May 3 [Register]
Join us to take a closer look at using literacy assessments to guide our next steps in teaching whether it be phonic skills, writing and reading behaviours, fluency or comprehension. We will look at phonics screeners, running records, F&P Benchmark Assessment System and other assessments teachers will find helpful to direct their teaching focus for whole class, small group or individual students.

Minecraft is a fun educational tool that is great for teaching important ADST skills – Computational Thinking, the Design Process, coding and more. You can decide if you want to dedicate some classroom time, just make it a completely extra-curricular activity, or just register to stay informed. Free training and great prizes are available.

The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2022 (more info)
In 2022, on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee year, Her Majesty The Queen will celebrate 70 years as the Head of the Commonwealth. The Queen’s seven decades of service to the Commonwealth are an inspiring example of the steadfast commitment and important contribution we can all make to our societies. The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition 2022 asks entrants to explore the positive impact that can be achieved through dedication and selfless commitment to our Commonwealth.
The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition is now open for submissions with the theme ‘Our Commonwealth’. Young people from across the Commonwealth can now submit their entries until the closing deadline on June 30. Teaching resources and the competition flyer can be found here.

Earth Day is coming up on April 22 and this year’s theme is “Invest In Our Planet”. Everyone – businesses, governments, schools, communities – is encouraged to take action on climate change.
Hands-on activities for Kindergarten to Grade 7 in French and English are available to encourage your students to learn about the impacts of waste, importance of energy conservation, and the power of our collective efforts to help build a sustainable future.
Classrooms that take part in our Earth Day activities will be entered to win a prize package that includes a visit from Science World.

UBC Extended Learning 2022 Online or In-Person French Summer Institutes
Applications for bursaries are now open for certified BC teachers to attend and eligible teachers and non-certified teachers classified under Group 3 can apply for a bursary that covers the full tuition amount for our one, two and three-week Summer Institutes.
This summer, choose the learning experience that fits your schedule and learning style. We offer a one-week Summer Institute online or in-person at UBC’s newly renovated Robson Square.
Continue your learning online in Weeks 2 and 3—from home, or wherever suits you best. Summer Institutes are offered at the Beginner 2/Lower Intermediate to Intermediate/Advanced levels.
Find out all the details about our Summer Institutes, then apply for a bursary. Bursaries are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t delay. Classes start July 11.
Green Thumb Theatre (more info)
The Green Thumb Theatre is offering a limited run this spring for secondary schools with their hit show THE CODE (grades 7+), which includes a Q&A period as well as a study guide packed full of pre and post show activities and questions to ensure that your students get the most out of the show. Their priority is to inspire and kick-start a conversation with students through theatre, while following strict PHO guidelines for the province. Prices and policies have been adjusted to be able to perform two shows in the school to support smaller assemblies, if that would be preferred.
