Shouting Whales Offers Fun Lesson Plans for Grades 6 to 8
Looking for a fun way to bring ocean science into your classroom? Shouting Whales is a great new resource that allows teachers to “plug in and play” an introductory inquiry unit in marine science, specifically in the fields of marine biology and acoustics.
Developed jointly by Ocean Networks Canada and Open School BC for students in grades 6 to 8, the seven lesson plans can be presented in any order and can be used independently or as a complete unit. This free and fully downloadable resource also contains all the media you need to implement the lesson plans, as well as links to relevant websites, rubrics, student questions and videos.
2021 Census Teacher’s Kit
Canada’s next census will be held in May 2021.To help students understand what the census is about, Statistics Canada has developed the 2021 Census Teacher’s Kit. It includes five activities—available in English and French—that make subjects like mathematics, social studies and language studies come to life in a fun and dynamic way. The kit is ready for use in elementary and secondary classes across the country.
It also gives you, and your students, access to valuable census data tools for your research projects, and helps students relate to an important part of our Canadian heritage and gain a new perspective on their community.
A digital download of the 2021 Census Teacher’s Kit is available on the 2021 Census website.
