From Phonological Awareness to Reading Building a Strong Foundation
October 4, 18, & 25, 2021 [Register]
As teachers, we strive to provide a rich learning environment and a balanced literacy approach to helping all our learners become strong readers, writers and communicators. The BC Early Learning Framework recognizes that children approach learning in different ways to construct knowledge, test theories, explore and express ideas. We want to give all children access points to reading and the tools to success. We have created this 3-part series of workshops on early reading development to help you explore the skills that all students need to be successful in learning how to read. By attending this workshop, you will grow an understanding of how a child learns to read and how writing and vocabulary are an integral part of this process. While learning to talk is natural and innate, reading skills must be taught.

Modelling Well-being for Educators
June 1 – 16:30-1:30 PT
Society depends on educators to be a positive guiding force in our children’s lives – often playing simultaneous roles as educator, parent, counsellor, and caring friend. For educators to fulfill these vital roles, we need to develop resilience both inside and outside the classroom by supporting their mental, emotional, and physical well-being. This one-hour webinar will focus on practices of sustainable well-being for educators, including increasing knowledge of physical activity and how it supports mental well-being, and prioritizing mindfulness and self-compassion as a way of awakening our own well-being to be present for the work of showing up for our students. Click here to register.
eLearning: Physical Literacy Assessment
We all know how important assessment is to the learning process, but many educators have never been trained to assess how their students move. The course reviews the theory behind physical literacy and explains the benefits of assessing movement with the PLAYbasic for Educators tool. Videos describing each of the five assessment tasks let you see different levels of competency and give you confidence in observing how your students move. The course is self-paced, but allow a full hour to work through the content.
