The focus of the workshop is to: introduce a common language around mental health; promote the reduction of stigma; increase knowledge around what is/what is not a mental illness; provide an overview of the more common mental health concerns and disorders encountered in a school setting; and begin a conversation around good mental health practices, which includes seeking help when appropriate.

First people’s principals of learning included are:
• Intercultural understanding, empathy, & mutual respect.
•  Exploration of identity.
•  Generational roles & responsibilities.
•  Holistic, reflexive, reflective, etc.
• Knowledge is sacred.
•  Patience & time.

Kathy Collins designed and offered this course in The Studio last winter – and we were so excited about our experience that we’ve decided to offer it again. We love how Kathy centers the course on an issue of passionate concern for children and adults alike – friendship – and leads explorations of interdisciplinary research, resources, media, materials, literature, and guides interactions with each other to gather ideas for nurturing children to acquire the skills and agency to form healthy friendships. And, wonderfully, the course is designed with us adults in mind as well, leading us to excavate and reflect on our own stories of friendship. A la carte registration is US$250 and opens April 25

Guided by our reading and an esteemed team of educator-artists, we’ll all pick up the tools of the arts to create and construct new studios for exploration and learning.
