Odyssey Professional Development Day – February 11th: As we continue our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation in Langley Schools, our focus for Odyssey this year is on Truth and Reconciliation.  As Justice Sinclair said, “Education is the key to reconciliation.” Odyssey is being organized to be relevant to all employees in the District with a focus on our collective responsibility to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. Asian Canadian Book Study

Let’s talk books! Join us as we explore Young Adult novels created by Asian Canadian authors and artists. Together, we will curate a list of novels to support teachers looking for high-quality and engaging Young Adult literature that reflects our diverse community. Read one book or read ten! You determine what works for you throughout the Book Study series.

Geocaching 101

In this two-part workshop, you will learn how to use a GPS (Global Positioning System) device in order to take your class outside and explore your local place through geocaching. In session 1, you will learn about the GPS units, how to find geocaching sites around Langley and how to create your own geocache. In session 2, we will spend time in a local environment putting this knowledge into practice.

Mystery Science

Mystery Science is a K-5 “open and go” resource for teachers looking for engaging, easy-to-use, hands-on science lessons. For each lesson we will discuss: what is Mystery Science? How do teachers use mini-lessons for in-person and remote learning? How do teachers use our core lessons for in-person and remote learning?

EXTERNAL STUDENT/STAFF OPPORTUNITIES and LEARNING RESOURCES

Farm to School BC (more info)
From January to October 2022, Farm to School BC is offering a free mentorship program for K-12 educators in BC who are in the initial stages of creating a school garden, or are revitalizing an existing school garden.

This program includes a series of monthly after-school online workshops and the opportunity to join a supportive cohort of school garden educators from across the province. See our website for more details.

About the Workshops: Workshops will be facilitated by Farm to School BC staff who have a wealth of experience supporting school gardens. Each workshop is designed to build off previous workshops, however, participants can sign up for as many sessions as they like. Join our mailing list to receive updates about the School Garden Mentorship Program including upcoming webinars and resources.

Each workshop will include the following components:

  • An educational presentation by Farm to School BC staff
  • Regional breakout rooms for discussion and reflection
  • Project planning resources to support your school garden team
  • Profile of an inspiring school garden
  • An activity you can do with your class in the garden
