Teen activist Autumn Peltier demands clean water for all.
You know something’s wrong when a child speaks up. That’s how Autumn Peltier, a teen from Wiikwemkoong First Nation in Ontario, framed her fight for clean drinking water in Canada’s Indigenous communities. The teen, who’s originally from Manitoulin Island but currently living in Ottawa, told CBC Kids News she’d rather spend her free time doing normal kid stuff. Instead, she’s making speeches on the international stage about the fact that some Canadians don’t have access to clean water. Watch Autumn tell her story in her own words.

Literacy Credentialing – August 31 [Register]
The purpose of the credentialing workshop is to outline the duties and responsibilities of provincial assessment markers, establish valid and reliable assessment processes, and credential educators for the marking of the provincial assessments.
Whether your interest is in learning more about assessment, engaging with provincial standards, or getting certified for future paid marking; this is an excellent professional development opportunity.

This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 21, 2022, at RE Mountain Secondary. Sessions are 1.5 hours, and there are three sessions in the day. We will have a backup plan to go online just in case.

Join Logics Academy in a series of co-taught experiences for students to explore and celebrate various learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math through learning activities and live virtual events. There are several wonderful opportunities for you and your students and you can sign up for 1-hour co-taught STEAM sessions for your classroom.
Co-taught sessions are a great way to keep students excited, engaged and learning in June. The live virtual STEAM expert teacher will direct your class, allowing you to work one on one with students and join in the learning. You will see successful strategies to make teaching STEAM easy and fun.

‘Defining Moments’ are those moments of shared national importance to Canadians – teachers develop these in their classes everyday. Such ‘moments’ afford the Canadian classroom teacher a remarkably rich opportunity to inspire students to become “active citizens” completing digital tasks that commemorate a defining moment in our shared Canadian heritage.

Your class is invited to join us to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21. During the event, students will:
- Learn about Indigenous perspectives of water
- Understand how our actions impact future generations
- Hear from Gary Johnston of Skwxwú7mesh Uxwumixw Nation, an educator of First Nations history and culture
This online opportunity is intended for grades 4 to 7 students, however other grade levels are welcome to take part.
