KEY RESOURCES IN LANGLEY

HONOURING TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation with Kevin Lamoureux [On-Demand Learning Feature]
Join Kevin Lamoureux for this first in a webinar series about ensouling our schools. This session discusses reconciliation. What it means for all Canadians, and for us as educators. 72 of the 94 Calls to Action are about awareness and education, which means change starts in our classrooms; once a place of fear and trauma, they now must become places of love, acceptance, and healing.

Trigger Warning: Content that is shared during the presentation deals with the abuse and trauma experienced by Aboriginal children in residential schools and the ongoing trauma for survivors and their families. This information, while incredibly important to discuss and learn about, can be difficult and disturbing. Please prepare yourself emotionally before watching.

Read-Speak-Champion Virtual Author Series with Kim Senklip Harvey – June 7 [Register]
Join us for a virtual session with Indigenous author & playwright, Kim Senklip Harvey as she discusses her award-winning play, Kamloopa: An Indigenous Matriarch Story. The play tells the story of three Indigenous women on their journey to reclaim Indigenous matriarchal power.

Bursaries for 2022 UBC Phenomenal Physics Summer Camps
This summer we will be running our popular Phenomenal Physics summer camps once again. We have 7 places available this summer to children who are exceptionally interested in science, but would not ordinarily be able to attend due to financial reasons. I therefore invite you to nominate a child from your school (currently in grades 1-6) who would most benefit from this program.

We are running two camps this summer: Fun with Physics (for students completing grades 1-3 by July 2022) and Advanced Physics (for students completing grades 4-6 by July 2022) camps. Children may select the camp of their choice – we will try our best to accommodate their preference. The children’s families will incur no cost but they must provide packed lunches and be able to bring the children to UBC campus between 8:45-9:00am in the morning and pick up the children at 4:00pm in the afternoon on each day of the camp. The children must be well-behaved (we have no capacity or training to deal with behavioral problems). These children will be treated in the same manner as everyone else and will not be identified in any way.

Please apply by June 3rd, 2022, submitting via email, post or fax. Due to high demand, children who have not been offered bursaries in the past will receive priority. We reserve the right to make our own selection from the nominations received. We also require that this nomination process be initiated by you, the Principal (in consultation with your teachers), and not by the child’s parents. Those awarded the bursary will be contacted directly by mid-June. Due to the number of applications we receive, we will not contact parents whose children are not awarded.

In previous years, we’ve received a large volume of applications, so please ensure that the parents are aware that this form is only a nomination form, and does not imply acceptance into the bursary program. We will contact parents directly, if their child is selected for our program.

Thank you for your promotion of our bursary seats!
