Asian Canadian Book Study

Let’s talk books! Join us as we explore Young Adult novels created by Asian Canadian authors and artists. Together, we will curate a list of novels to support teachers looking for high-quality and engaging Young Adult literature that reflects our diverse community. Read one book or read ten! You determine what works for you throughout the Book Study series.
ICBC’s Educational Programs for Road Safety

We invite you to attend an overview of ICBC’s Educational Programs for Road Safety. Road Safety Learning Resources – These age-appropriate online resources are available for free and are aimed at children in K-10. The Road Safety Speaker Program is aimed at students in grades 11 & 12, and we’ll share the steps for schools/facilitators to book a free road safety speaker presentation.
Kindergarten Screening Protocol – Phonological Awareness Assessment

The KSP is the recommended phonological awareness assessment for Kindergarten in Langley. If you are new to Kindergarten, the district, or to using KSP, please join us for a quick overview of this valuable assessment tool. Participants will receive the KSP protocol after the session.
Digital Numeracy Skill Builder
November 23 and 30 [Register]
Finding, evaluating, organizing, creating and communicating information is what math is all about! In this workshop, you will learn how to incorporate digital tools to help students demonstrate their learning in math and numeracy. We will be using different activities and games to illustrate number concepts, patterns, geometry, and number sense. Attendance at both workshops is recommended!
Creating Community with Green Screens (for the Holidays)

Just in time for December activities! Come learn how easy green screens are to use. This hands on workshop will walk you through how to use the green screen kits available for booking from the District Learning Commons.
NEW English First Peoples District Initiative
December 1, January 19, February 11, May 18 [Register]
This Professional Learning Community will connect high school teachers interested in learning more about, advocating for, sharing their current practice and ultimately teaching English First Peoples 12. We will be learning more about English First Peoples 12 as a course, creating connections amongst ourselves as well as community stakeholders, and advocating within our school communities for English First Peoples 12 with the support of this Professional Learning Community.

Attention PE Health Teachers: Health Canada is offering two virtual learning tour events for your school and students:
Consider the Consequences of Vaping (Ages 13-18/Grades 8-12):
Designed to inform and engage students on the harms and health risks of youth vaping and to help prevent the uptake of vaping products. Vaping has risks. This virtual 45-minute experience will inform and engage youth on the harms and risks of youth vaping. This interactive and free event will educate high school students on the following topics:
- Vaping can lead to nicotine addiction
- Vaping can increase your exposure to harmful chemicals and metals
- The long-term health impacts of vaping are unknown
KNOW MORE (Ages 13-18/Grades 8-12):
The KNOW MORE tour aims to engage teens and young adults on the facts surrounding the overdose crisis, opioids, fentanyl, naloxone, and stigma. This free, interactive 1-hour virtual experience features activities and resources designed to educate students on the risks associated with opioid use, how to reduce harms (e.g. knowing how to recognize and react to an opioid overdose) and the importance of reducing the stigma associated with addiction.
We are currently booking sessions beginning on November 9st and running until December 10th. These presentations are available in English and French, and we can accommodate schools which are fully virtual or in the classroom, up to a maximum of 50 students. Feel free to combine classes, if possible.

2022 Science Games from Engineering and Geoscientists of BC – Register
With a focus on collaboration, connection, discovery and fun, Grades 1-6 students will embark on a 3-week science journey in February and March 2022! Through fun, interactive activities and weekly challenges, students will experience aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) through the eyes of their engineer or geoscience mentors. The Science Games Saturday Activity Sessions will be hosted on Zoom on February 26, March 5, and March 12, 2022. Spaces are limited!
Virtual Aqua Class – Ocean Wise
Are you looking for a fun virtual experience to enhance your students’ understanding of oceans, ecosystems, and climate change? Check out Ocean Wise’s Virtual AquaClasses! These live, guided workshops focus on inquiry-based learning with an environmental and climate change focus. Not your average digital workshop, the sessions include mini-games, student-led discussions, and some surprises along the way. Using real scientific findings and data collected by Ocean Wise’s world-renowned research team, your students will get an inside view of the latest climate and environmental science.
