We have the potential to make a huge impact on a student’s wellbeing. But are educators okay? Let’s explore how we as educators can look after ourselves to ensure that we are okay, so that we can show up for our students and connect with them. This is a book study for educators: the teachers, bus drivers, administrators, educational assistants, custodians- anyone who leads, loves and supports kids.
NEW SD35’s Read-Speak-Champion Virtual Author Series with Author Sarah Suk

As contemporary educators, we have a responsibility to share diverse stories and varied perspectives with our students. “Seven Fallen Feathers” by Tanya Talaga. A publisher’s Overview Notes:
Over the span of eleven years, seven Indigenous high school students died in Thunder Bay, Ontario. They were hundreds of kilometers away from their families, forced to leave home because there was no adequate high school on their reserves. Five were found dead in the rivers surrounding Lake Superior, below a sacred Indigenous site. Using a sweeping narrative focusing on the lives of the students, award-winning author Tanya Talaga delves into the history of this northern city that has come to manifest Canada’s long struggle with human rights violations against Indigenous communities.
How to Bring Concours Virtuel into the Classroom
CPF BC & Yukon is pleased to offer Concours virtuel 2021, a Canada-wide program for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The contest asks students to create videos of 1 to 3 minutes long, en français, on the topic of their choice.
Concours virtuel is a great way to engage students with technology, storytelling and public speaking!
How to Participate
The rules for Concours virtuel are simple this year. Students are asked to create a short video on the non-fiction topic of their choice and upload it to a video hosting site such as YouTube or Vimeo. The core requirement? That each submission contains at least one minute of French content, spoken by the participant. Students in Grades 6-12 will be automatically entered in the judged competition, for which cash prizes are available. The contest will group students by grade and program type.
Videos do not have to be publicly viewable, and CPF BC & Yukon will not share a video without student and guardian consent.
